The 20th Anniversary of the Port Douglas Carnivale is now quickly picking up momentum.  This 10 day festival take place from 16th to 25th May and everyday is packed with foodie events, street performance and after dark entertainment ranging from comedy, cabaret and cocktails.

The first weekend is jam packed with family fun down on Four Mile Beach and at Rex Smeal Park on the shores of the Coral Sea.  Throughout the weekdays from Monday to Friday there is a Street Art and performers festival entertaining daytime crowds with a whole raft of comedy, cabaret, cocktails, music and sports filling the evening shifts.

By Friday lunchtime the excitement will be a fever pitch with Palates of Port leading the way back at the Sugar Wharf and The Port Douglas Food Wine taking us through Saturday and on to a reluctant close with the Seafood Extravaganza down on the Reef Marina boardwalk. Over 20,000 visitors are expected for the 10 days of Port Douglas Carnivale celebrations.

The Port Douglas Carnivale opens with The Macrossan Street Parade, and this year it promises to be bigger and better with the addition of a street float competition. The competition looks really fierce this year with many of the restaurants, community groups, schools, social clubs, reef and rainforest operators booking in to compete for title of the best dressed float and the $1000 prize.

Loads of games, three legged races, potato races, sack races, egg and spoon races, comedy ball games, coo-ee competition and the Inaugural Australia Day Land Race plus much much more. New Year Events in Port Douglas

The best places to view the firework displays are adjacent to The Combined Club at 8.30pm and at Anzac Park on the Port Douglas foreshore at midnight. The Great Barrier Reef Marathon

The Port Douglas Great Barrier Reef Marathon is just around the corner and now is the perfect time to secure your Port Douglas apartments accommodation for this great local event. Spielberg in Port Douglas

The latest local news is that scouts from three production companies have visited Port Douglas to investigate the possibility of shooting big budget TV series here, just as it has been announced that Steven Spielberg’s highly successful mini-series “The Pacific” has been nominated for 24 Emmy Awards. “The Pacific” was filmed at Rocky Point, Four Mile Beach and Port Douglas.

One of the new series which may be filmed in the Port Douglas area is another Steven Spielberg production called Terra Nova, which features dinosaurs, so locals and visitors might be in for a few unusual sights in future days!
